R.I.P. 1926-2007

Ok, so I am over doing it a little bit, but it has come close. The toilet in the bathroom in my office, yes I have my own toilet and bathroom, it rocks, the toilet has backed up, and we are not sure if it something stuck deep down in the pipes, that a snake can't get, or if the pipes are frozen somewhere. The plumber dude, who is quite cool, thinks that the pipes are frozen. And it makes sense cause it seems that the pipes are all in the outside walls, the walls that can get a little bit cold. And with the boiler troubles we have had, they are fixed now, and the freezing cold weather we have had, it is getting a little warmer, it just makes sense that there is ice somewhere in a pipe keeping the water from moving on through. I won't tell you how I discovered the overflowing toilet, seeing as I thought the water on the floor was coming from a leaking radiator... Ugh. The plumber when he came in, and looked at the toilet was impressed, amazed actually, cause they stopped usi

The Alleluia Booklet

Hey All, If you happen to stumble here because of the email, or maybe you just stumbled here by chance, I want to direct you to another blog we are hosting, one that will be quite a wonderful thing as we move forward with this new idea called the Alleluia Booklet. It's not new really, new for us here at the Garden, and a great way for us to share some of our stories of faith. I won't go into it here, but why don't you click these words , and watch and learn. If you have any questions, email me at aron at downtownepiscopal dot org. Be well, A+

This weeks reading

COLLECT OF THE DAY O God, the strength of all who put their trust in you: Mercifully accept our prayers; and because in our weakness we can do nothing good without you, give us the help of your grace, that in keeping your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. OLD TESTAMENT READING Jeremiah 17:5-10 Thus says the LORD: Cursed are those who trust in mere mortals and make mere flesh their strength, whose hearts turn away from the LORD. They shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when relief comes. They shall live in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. Blessed are those who trust in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought it is not anxious,

Today's Sermon, 5 Epiphany, 2007

So now is the time I bore you with fun Biblical facts about the Gospel of Luke. Catching a lot of fish, doesn’t seem too exciting, I first thought, and then I read some of these tidbits about fishermen in Jesus’ time. Fish was one of the main staples of the diet of the people in first century Palestine . More fish was eaten there than any other kind of meat. So therefore there was also a thriving fishing industry. Fish was prepared in many different ways, it was eaten fresh often, it was processed, though probably not with the same kind of method that we use today, their processed fish probably actually had a shelf life. It was also salted and dried for consumption. The other thing the people of that time did was pickle fish so they could export it to other countries. So that is all well and good, you ask, but what kind of fish did they catch and eat!? The fish there were not unlike the fish here in our own lakes and streams. The fish in the Sea of Galilee, Sea

How we Consume

Stumbled across this post on Blogger, and I thought it was interesting. We consume so much and we consume so much mindlessly and without any idea of what we are doing or how we are effecting the world and all that is in it, i.e., God's creation. Although, I do wish I could eat about half that amount of Krispy Kreme's every week. MMMMMM Good. Be well, A+
