We took a lot of really great pictures on our vacation, but this one is my favorite. Eliot, tonight after we got home, was so crazy tired, he could only laugh hilariously. Naomi just cried really loud. He had a ball and we had a great time relaxing. Look at those smiles!

Sometimes it is amazing how the Scriptures can capture the spirit of humans who have succumbed to the power of greed. Entitlement has to be one of the other most egregious characteristics that exist in human relationships as well. I heard another story that I think captures this a little more. God appeared to this farmer and granted him three wishes, but with the condition that whatever God did for the farmer would be given double to his neighbor. The farmer, scarcely believing his good fortune, wished for a hundred cattle. Immediately he received a hundred cattle and he was overjoyed until he saw that his neighbor had two hundred. So he wished for a hundred acres of land, and again he was filled with joy until he saw that his neighbor had two hundred acres of land. Rather than celebrating God’s goodness, the farmer could not escape feeling jealous and slighted because his neighbor had received more than he. An interesting Observation

I was sitting on the pew out in front of the Church on 4th Avenue waiting for my lovely and beloved wife to pick me up. Our other car was in the shop and due to rushed-ness we had to just drop me off at Church today. Anyway, I was sitting out there for about 15 minutes waiting for Sara to come and pick me up and I noticed something very odd. I didn't keep a number tally in my head, but I bet half of the people walking toward me crossed the street, not in the crosswalk at the corner, but at some other point before arriving at where I was sitting. Now, I was wearing my collar and sitting in the pew reading a book. The pew has been used frequently I have noticed by many passersby, I even saw a young man take off one of the round parts of the pew, it had kind of fallen off, so no longer attached, but just stare at it and look it over as he walked on. Sermon in the Garden, 12 03 2006 Advent 1

The Rev. Aron Kramer Advent 1 December 3rd, 2006 How many of you have heard the story of Charlie and the MTA as told by the Kingston Trio? The chorus of the song goes like this: “Did he ever return? No he never returned, and his fate is still unlearned. He may ride forever beneath the streets of Boston; he’s the man who never returned.” You see, Charlie needed one more nickel in order to get off the train and because he didn’t have it, he was stuck forever, or until he paid, on the MTA. It is another of my favorite songs, I love the Kingston Trio in particular, and this song is sort of an advent song, a song of waiting, a song of anticipation, what will happen to Charlie, will he ever return or is he forever lost to us? Advent is a time of waiting, it is a time of anticipation, I have never really figured out what that meant, it has in the past been a penitential time, not on par with Lent, but penitential none the less.
