New Inspiration

I am listening, right now, to a podcast from Speaking of Faith in which Krista Tippett interviews a young Rabbi fro LA named Sharon Brous. She is crazy inspirational.

One thing she said that has kept hitting me is this: "What do we want the world to look like and what are we doing about it."

Powerful stuff, wow, what if we as a community gathered together and had a real conversation about just this topic. What do we want, what do we desire, what is it we see when we look at the world, and how then, do we see GOd in it.

She is quite cutting edge, even going so far as to say about worship if you are not inspired each time you come to celebrate go see a movie instead, I should say that.

More to come when I finish this podcast, it is amazing!

Be well,
A+

The program "Days of Awe" from Sept 6? I just listened. Wow. Though possibly different things stood out to than you...

I like what she says about texts being the same every year, but there being something new each time we come to them because we're different.

I like the idea of being identified as simultaneously traditional & progressive.

I like her sense of being part of a living tradition... in which she adds to the mix,...in which she can recognized texts that don't resonate now but might sometime,...in which she can admit to there being awful parts of the tradition and missing parts of the tradition while still having the tradition be a positive element in her life and her own life be a positive contribution to the tradition.

I like her sense of humility and gently (thus perhaps effectively) calling people to that.

I like her perspective of the way liturgy and holidays work.

How did she get to this from where she was when she found the services of the High Holy Days something to be endured? (...spiritual biography...)

What does living out these perspectives look like in the context of weekly services, daily life or holiday observances? How do we translate what we affirm of her perspectives into our own lives & practices in the Garden?
